What is a remote password protected folder access by the internet called?

I am trying to set up an internet accessible folder that can be accessed by clicking on a link from my web-page. In that folder I want to have about five different people upload closeout documents viewable by clients who have a password. What is this called? Who should I contact to get this set up? How do you do it?
