Okay I’ve had it. Since forever my parents have insisted on sticking to their stupid slow dialup Internet account. They live out in the country so broadband for them. They were perfectly happy with their crappy 33.1Kbps modem and getting bumped offline and waiting forever for a web page to load. But recently Dad started to complain that we never send them pictures of the grand kids.
Once I explained that this was because they could never pull their email when I sent them pictures. It would take a hour to download the pictures, and when I tried to use an image host it was a waste of time because they would sit there like little kids staring at the screen while the first image loaded up… pitiful.
So in December I hooked them up with wildblue satellite as a Christmas gift from me and Becky. It only set me back a hundred bucks for the initial fee and an installer came out and set the whole thing up. The installer even hooked it up to their computer so I didn’t have to drive out during the week.
Anyway now they’re all fixed up and can pull family pictures off of Picasa instantly. I got them the smallest level plan at 512 K download and the speed is like a miracle to them. LOLĀ In fact my mom is now talking about doing ebay auctions for her doll collection — before the Internet was too slow for her to even dream of that.
Even old dogs and learn new tricks eh?
