yes you have a right to complain about what the price is. but they have the right to set the price for their service wherever they want. the whole point of all this is for them to make as much money as possible. you might not like it, too bad. i think plasma hd tv’s are too pricey, i don’t sony gives a fuck, as long as they are selling. as long as people are willing to pay 45$ extra dollars to fly, the airlines will keep charging them that. its how capitalism works.

Well, Cenk touched on something that could help with this: Treat the oil companies as the utilities they are! If they were treated as utilities like water and electricity, they wouldn’t be price gouging everyone, including the airlines, and it would be cheaper for everyone on everything.

It’s called agravating their already angry customer base–people will be far less angry and cause far fewer problems if they’re not nickled and dimed after they’ve already bought their tickets. I, and all their customers have every right to complain and we will. If you don’t like it you can just keep kissing the airline’s asses. Maximizing profits–bullshit–maximizing frustration which will just cause more problems for their ground and flight staffs.

As for my In-Law’s job, it’s a job somebody has to do. And all of her flights would be scheduled whether she was on them or not, so it’s not like she personally is burning the gas by being on the plane. I agree with you, however, that there are better ways to fix things that to regulate every tiny thing that could be called an injustice. There just comes a time, though, when you really feel like you’re getting fucked, and nothing will ever be done about it.

@Valstein0 There are better solutions to the general problem of CEOs making too much money. You can allow shareholders to vote on CEOs’ salaries, you can increase taxes for the rich so that they give most of their money back to society, but don’t just start putting random regulations on every industry in America and expect CEOs to be the ones to suffer for it. Also, flying five days a week is ridiculous for a person’s health and for the environment.

She hasn’t done ANY research on this. They dropped their prices more than $45/ticket. So if you carry-on, you pay a normal price. If you don’t, then you get $45 off.
Besides I’m so sick of these idiots carrying on a refrigerator box with tape handles and calling it carry-on. I know it’s an old joke, but it’s funny because it’s true. People are insane with how much they carry on. Not to mention the safety aspect of that much luggage in the cabin.

They can only get away with this sort of thing via Price Fixing. Normally market competition would hammer them for such a move. Imho, no business would do this w/o confidence that no competitor would undercut them.

I disagree with Cenk. If the airline industry was more competitive I’d have his back. But the current industry is an oligopoly that is pretty dam close to a cartel, and in fact certain areas of the country and the world are monopolized by certain airlines (U.S. Airways pretty much owns Raleigh, American Airlines owns Dallas). There is a lot of incentive for the airlines to collude.
We’ll see in 2 years if the other airlines will be charging for carry ons. I bet they will.

I agree with Cenk. Haven’t you seen the South Western commercials for “bags fly free”? Free Market!! haha now granted South Western is my least favorite airline but at least I don’t have to pay $45 to bring my laptop on the plane.
